Title IX and Sex-Based Harassment
Henry County School System complies with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any education program or activity.
The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a prompt, fair, and thorough response to all reports and formal complaints of sex discrimination and sex-based harassment. School-level personnel must keep the Title IX Coordinator informed of all investigations, and the Coordinator will provide input and oversight as appropriate.
Title IX Complaint Process
A basic Title IX process includes the following steps:
A report of discrimination and/or sexual harassment is received.
A formal complaint is filed by the complainant or the Title IX Coordinator.
Notice of allegations is provided to all involved parties.
An investigation is conducted.
Question-and-answer opportunities, resolution, and determination are provided.
An appeal process is available.
Filing a Formal Complaint
A formal complaint must be submitted in writing (hard copy or email).
The complaint should be signed by the complainant, parent/guardian (if applicable), or the Title IX Coordinator.
The complaint must identify the alleged sexual harassment and request an investigation.
Supportive Measures
Supportive services will be provided and monitored throughout the investigation and, as needed, after the resolution for both the complainant and the respondent.
Training
As required under 34 C.F.R. §106.45(b)(10)(i)(D), Title IX training materials are publicly available. Training has been provided through ICS Lawyer.
