PARIS, TN — The Henry County Board of Education convened for its monthly meeting last night at Henry County High School, marking the official welcome of its newest board member and celebrating several major student and staff achievements.
Tas Smith was officially sworn in by Henry County Clerk Donna Craig prior to the start of the meeting. Smith will represent District 5, filling the vacancy left by Jill Coker, who resigned earlier this spring after relocating outside the district. Smith was appointed by the commission and will serve until 2028.
Board Scholarship Award: Marly Latta, a 2023 Henry County High School graduate and current Elementary Education major at the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM), was named the recipient of this year's Board Scholarship. The scholarship is funded entirely by school board members, who donate the maximum amount of their meeting stipends to support local graduates pursuing education careers.
Aspiring Administrators Program: The board recognized six educators for successfully completing the district’s Aspiring Administrators leadership program. Marcy Raus, John Norwood, Marsha White, J.T. Hinson, Melissa Berry, and Dylan Poole were each presented with a plaque celebrating their dedication to future leadership within the school system.
The board officially approved tenure recommendations for ten teachers across the district:
• Henry Elementary School: Jacey Flannigan, Melissa Berry, Megan Blackwell, Samantha Murphy, and Stacy French
• Harrelson Elementary School: Shannon Smith and Jennifer Hinson
• Henry County High School: Susan Davis, McKell Allen, and Chance Young
A representative from TLM & Associates presented a comprehensive, two-phase plan to relocate the Central Office from the high school to the TCAT building located across the street. The presentation detailed upcoming renovations and necessary structural updates required to bring the facility up to code for both business operations and student occupancy.
Before adjourning, the board also reviewed budget revisions and received updates on ongoing district facility projects.
